Real Estate in Reston, VA

Reston, Virginia is a family friendly community 20 miles west of Washington, DC. Reston began development in 1964 and is the first planned community in the United States. It is also where Avenue Realty’s Amy and Darian Cochran had their first date back when the town center was a third of the size it is now.

Over the last several years, Reston has grown to become the home of many businesses and government agencies. In fact, many residents have the opportunity to walk to work or commute by bike.

The Reston Town Center is an outdoor venue that includes hundreds of shops, restaurants and other entertainment. It really is a sight to be seen. Streets upon streets of high end shops and reasonably priced boutiques make it a great place for a day of shopping. In the winter, the ice skating is a must for kids and adults! For a complete picture of the town center’s shopping experience, you can download the map.

Outside of the “downtown” area, you have access to several other shopping centers. Located right off of the Reston Parkway is North Point Village, which offers community residents a grocery store, small specialty shops and other general stores. In addition, residents love the large number of independently owned retail and restaurant options at Lake Anne Plaza. Lake Anne Plaza supports the community by holding a number of events throughout the year and maintains a blog to share important information with those in the area.

The Reston Town Center alone is home to over 30 restaurants and cafes. I haven’t had a bad dining experience at the Reston Town Center, but I do have my favorites. Cosi is a great spot for a lunchtime sandwich or salad, and I love that the salad comes with a piece of their delicious bread. Jackson’s is wonderful for lunch and dinner. It is one of the newest members of the Great American Restaurant chain and offers consistently good food and service. The Tasting Room is a fun way to spend time unwinding after work while sampling wines. Yogiberry is a yummy and “healthy” place to satisfy your sweet tooth.

The Reston Zoo is an exciting place to spend the day with the kids. There are walking paths leading you to animal exhibits, a petting barn to feed and pet animals, and a zoofari wagon ride. There are many animals represented at the Reston Zoo from alligators to goats to monkeys to zebras! Check out more at the Reston Zoo website.

Reston has over 55 miles of pathways that weave through neighborhoods and shopping areas. The 45 mile Washington and Old Dominion Trail also runs through Reston.

Reston is home to two golf courses. The Reston National Golf Course is open to the public, while the Hidden Creek Country Club is for members only.
