Agricultural Teacher Becomes Teacher of the Year

A local Strasburg teacher recently received the prestigious award of Shenandoah County Teacher of the Year. The award went to 30 year old Jaclyn Roller, an agricultural teacher at Signal Knob Middle School in Strasburg. She was selected from multiple finalists for her dedication to both her field and her students. Roller was extremely moved by the award and is thrilled she is able to instill in her students a love for agricultural science.

Numerous teachers are nominated every year. The county receives these nominations and begins to review the backgrounds and educational contributions of the nominees. Finalists are then selected and notified of their candidature. They must then submit to a round of interviews, write several essays in which they clarify their teaching principals and teach under observation by the Shenandoah County Teacher of the Year committee board members. Once the finalists have completed all of these stages, their performance is reviewed and a winner selected. (more…)
